The B.I.G Campus Party
Reported By Dave Yeow
The B.I.G Campus Party came and went on the 21st of November 2009, and it was a BIG BLAST! Despite the heavy rain, more than 318 people attended the party, with over 230 of them being campus students! For 70 of these precious students it was their first time to Acts Church and all of them were absolutely "WOWed" by our worship, word and warmth.
The B.I.G Campus Party was meant to celebrate the end of exams for all campus students in Acts Church and Subang! It was a night that promised fun, food, great music, laughter and friendship. And ActsCampus, the college and university ministry of Acts, delivered all that and more.
As hundreds of students poured into church at 7pm that night, they were greeted with light refreshments and an amazing time of fellowship among students from various campuses all over the Klang Valley and beyond! At 7.30pm, the party was given an explosive kick off by the Lightbulb dancers (the creative arts ministry of Acts Church), who camptured the audience with an amazing dance performance that fused local and hip-hop moves. After the dance, campus leaders Joel Loi and Sam Yeoh, who were also emcees for the night, took the stage and hosted a hilarious time of ice-breakers, throwing out many freebies like Pringles, KFC vouchers and Pull&Bear T-shirts at excited, screaming students, giving a GREAT start to the night ahead!
The emcees then made way for the debut of an awesome campus-made music video that showed the many fun and sporting campus students in Acts grooving to the tune of Black Eye Pea's "Tonight's Gonna be a Good Night". While the video drew to an end, campus students started swarming the front of the stage to start a "mosh pit", knowing that praise and worship was following suit.
Things moved on to a fantastic time during praise and worship. The students who had gathered in front of the stage had a whale of a time worshipping God unabashedly! It was an awesome sight to see campus students being on fire for God and at Acts Church, we definitely desire to see MORE of them! In the middle of worship, one of our Acts Campus leaders, Ronson took to the stage to share his testimony on how he came to know Christ and what a big difference God made in his life, transforming him from a "know it all thinker" to someone who is today 100 per cent devoted to God.
After worship, David Yeow the pastoral intern for ActsCampus, went on stage to preach a short message. Dave, as he is fondly known among students, shared how passionately to the crowd what a "BIG" God we serve. He preached passionately through the help of interactive media and humour to bring across the gospel message. Acts Church's resident "songstress" Tessie also made a surprise performance, belting out Christina Aguilera's "You're Beautiful" to help Dave bring across the point that Jesus loves everyone. Every campus student left that night inspired, encouraged and hungry for more of God. By the grace of God, 7 students responded to the message that night!
The B.I.G Campus Party ended on a high note when LimKokWing University of Creative Technology was announced as the BIGGEST campus represented that night with 51 campus students, followed by Sunway University-College with 23 students. It was indeed an "Oprah" moment when the winning campus jumped and screamed with joy when they were told that all of them would be walking home with gifts that night. It was unforgettable!
Everyone who have their heart and lives back to Jesus that night shared that they experienced unspeakable joy and peace. An immediate testimony that night was when one brother who previously confessed to indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle and was planning to hit the clubs after the party, decided that night that he didn't want to or need to anymore. He went home that night hungry for more of God and came back to Acts again the next day wanting to mature in his faith!
This year's campus party was definitely a BIG success and we're looking forward to making it BIGGER in the years to come! Because in God, we can do BIG things!
